After seeing all of the information about Toastmasters, it is probably clear to you that this is an excellent way to build public speaking skills. You may start with butterflys and wobbly knees, but you will build up to confident and effective presentations. You also have the option of developing your leadership skills as well. What do I do? The first step is to come to a meeting. If you are in the downtown Raleigh area, come to one of our meetings Wednesday at noon. If you are not close to downtown Raleigh, go to the Toastmasters International Website for a list of clubs near you. At the meeting you will meet members of the club and can pick up a membership application. Fill that out and give it to any of the club officers with a check for your first six month's dues. For Hi Rise Toasters between $27 and $42 depending on what month it is. Most companies including Progress Energy will allow supervisors to reimburse TM dues as a training expense. Why would Toastmasters want me? A Toastmasters club survives only by attracting new members. While some people stay in a Toastmasters Club for several years, most members stay for a year or two or maybe three. Unless new members join to fill in, the club will die. A Toastmasters Club like Hi Rise Toasters not only wants you as a new member, it needs you.
